What does a rotary shaft oil seal do?
A rotary shaft oil seal helps retain lubricant and exclude external contaminants where a shaft rotates within a housing. Tutor Seal’s range includes spring-energised, metal-reinforced lip seals for industrial rotating equipment.
The seal forms part of a wider system. Shaft condition, housing fit, lubrication and operating conditions all affect its performance, so the replacement should be specified for the equipment rather than selected from external diameter alone.
What information is needed to identify a replacement?
Provide shaft diameter, housing bore diameter and seal width, together with any markings or part number on the old seal. Include clear photographs of both sides and a drawing if available. Describe the lip arrangement or dust-exclusion requirement if it is known.
Dimensions taken from a damaged part may be misleading. If possible, provide the equipment drawing or measured shaft and housing dimensions as well.
Which operating conditions should I include?
State the lubricant or medium, operating temperature, shaft speed and any pressure at the sealing location. Describe external exposure to dust, moisture or process chemicals. Explain whether the enquiry concerns planned maintenance, a new design or a recurring leakage problem.
If a material grade, tolerance, approval or inspection document is essential, include it in the specification and ask for it to be confirmed in the quotation.

Send your dimensions, operating conditions, quantity, destination country and required date. Tutor Seal can then review the enquiry against its range. Delivery timing and commercial terms should be confirmed for the specific order.
